News from San Juan Del Sur

Hey All! We are back online. Sorry we haven't posted sooner but we lost power here at the Surf Sanctuary where we're staying. Our trip started out well and both flights were pleasant with little to no problems getting into Nicaragua and going through customs. The first half of the group had a brief stay in the airport while they waited for the Taca flight to arrive. We loaded up the bus around 5:30 - 6:00 pm CST (central standard time) and headed out for the Surf Sanctuary in San Juan Del Sur. The bus ride was pretty eventful. We experienced a random traffic stop, rainy weather and in some places road wash out. The bus trip took in all about 5 hours (we did stop for pizza on the way). When we finally arrived we received room assignments and many peoples luggage was wet from the roof ride in the rain. In addition, a few rooms had some unwanted company in the form of fruit bats. When we arrived at the Surf Sanctuary, we were without power which meant no lights or showers. Regardless, everyone took these mild set backs in stride and maintained a very positive attitude.

Day two started out great! Many opted for a chlorine clean by jumping into the pool. We had a delicious breakfast and broke into out two groups for the day. The first group to leave was the medial team. They served at a local infirmary. They treated patients with symptoms ranging from machete wounds, stomach ulcers to hernias. In all they treated some 82 patients and anticipate many more tomorrow. The second group was involved in clean up, construction and vbs with local children. Initially slow, the project picked up and those involved with vbs shared God's word and the gospel with about 100 children/students from the area. We just got done with dinner and discussed how our day went. We long to see what God has in store for our day tomorrow. But before then many of us will enjoy the pleasure of getting showered and having a good night's sleep. Be on the lookout for pictures and more updates to come :) blessings.

  1. So good to hear from you!!!! Sounds like quite the adventure!!! Now we can pray more specifically! Glad everyone remains positive. It's hard not to be when you have the chance to share with so many in need! There may be only 55 physically there but you can multiply that # based on how many are praying for you back home. May you all stay physically strong and healthy and radiate the love of our Savior!
    God Bless

  2. If you see Dan Franklin tell him he's not getting out of paying rent by leaving North America.

  3. Praise the Lord! So thankful for the updates. Tell Arielle and the entire team we will continue praying for you all. Just air out your wet clothes so mold doesn't set in. Fruit bats are harmless. We could almost hear the girls' screams in the US. LOL!
    Hugs,

    P.S.

Even though fruit bats are harmless when they're flying in your room it's pretty scary!!
